Hand Foot and Mouth Disease - Coxsackie

Virus Infections
Today a friend concerned about this disease her baby went to the doctor and found this diagnosis.
Coxsackievirus is a virus, that belongs to a family of nonenveloped, linear, positive-sense ssRNA viruses; Picornaviridae and the genus Enterovirus, which also includes poliovirus and echovirus. Enteroviruses are among the most common and important human pathogens, and ordinarily its members are transmitted by the fecal-oral route. Coxsackieviruses share many characteristics with poliovirus. With control of poliovirus infections in much of the world, more attention has been focused on understanding the non polio enteroviruses such as coxsackievirus.
Coxsackieviruses are among the leading causes of aseptic meningitis (the other usual suspects being echovirus and mumps virus)
Coxsackieviruses are divided into group A and group B viruses.

The most well known Coxsackie A disease is Hand, foot and mouth disease (unrelated to hoof and mouth disease), a common childhood illness which affects mostly children aged 5 or under,[1] often produced by Coxsackie A16. In most cases infection is asymptomatic or causes only mild symptoms. In others, infection produces short-lived (7–10 days) fever and painful blisters in the mouth (a condition known as herpangina), on the palms and fingers of the hand, or on the soles of the feet. There can also be blisters in the throat, or on or above the tonsils. Adults can also be affected. The rash, which can appear several days after high temperature and painful sore throat, can be itchy and painful, especially on the hands/fingers and bottom of feet.
Other diseases include acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (A24 specifically), herpangina, and aseptic meningitis (both Coxsackie A and B viruses). Coxsackievirus A7 infrequently causes polio-like permanent paralysis.
Treatment is dependent on the disease process initiated by the virus.
There is no known cure or vaccine against the coxsackie.
And my friend’s  her desperation she asked me if I could find any natural medicine for her; than topical cream treatment and nothing relieving that has a steroid component.

Child Care Centers & Multiculturalism Activities

Where Child Care Providing Multiculturalism Activities and Experience
What are the things you are doing to put respect first in order to be clear that all people can and should be represented in children’s services?

It is important to think about what we mean by ‘culture’ because it is the main part of ‘multiculturalism’. So,
Multiculturalism means that there are many different kinds of cultures in our society. A very broad definition of culture is that it refers to the things we do to exchange our identities. It is a process, a lived experience and an ongoing practice. Culture is created by individuals and groups and is passed on in some form from generation to generation.
A multicultural society is one where a variety of different cultural groups co-exist harmoniously free. To maintain their distinctive religious, linguistic or social customs, equal as individuals in their access to
Resources and services appropriate to them and their needs, to civil and political rights, and sharing with the rest of society particular concerns and values.  There would be diversity, equality, empathy of interaction to person to person for building better cultural communities
Cultural practices are created in order for people to identify with each other or to differentiate from, Beliefs, values, attitudes and social structures. These might include: thinking, talking, acting, and access to resources beliefs, faith, practices, customs, way to live, art, sport, language, food and eating, geographical region, education.

Socioeconomic status, laws, class, country of birth, family structure, sexuality, languages spoken, popular culture it is important to recognize that providing multicultural activities and experiences is not a choice, but a right.

North America  is made up of people from diverse cultures and backgrounds it is each person’s right to have their culture represented, accepted and celebrated in the way that they choose (subject to laws and lore). Even though recent changes to Government policy have been to the detriment of multiculturalism, the rights of people to belong are not negotiable. Therefore, we are responsible to act upon these rights in our everyday work with children and families.
Every game that you play is cultural and value leading; every activity or experience that you provide is cultural and value. And every decision you make is cultural value; once we begin to recognize the politics of what we do.

Every day we can begin to see how everyday living in children’s services is a multicultural experience. This means that we have to be conscious day by day about how we include, represent, values, respect and celebrate culture on a daily basis in order to avoid perpetuating racism, sexism, homophobiaclassism and language discrimination. That’s why we need to focus on equity in our everyday practice in order to work towards rights in the lives of children, their families of the communities in which we work.
The nature of this work is ongoing. The multicultural child care practice demands from child care organizations an ability to establish and live a culture of core values, with mutual respect for each child and family’s heritage.

We have the information from

The American population is changing. The 2000 Census when compared to the
1990 Census showed that the African American population grew by 15.6%, the Native
American and Alaska Native population grew by 26.4%, the Asian population grew by
48.3, the Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander population grew by 9.3%, and the
Hispanic or Latino population grew by 57.9% according to US Census (U.S. Census Bureau, 2001).   As the overall demographics change so are the demographics of children in early childhood education programs.
There are over twenty million children between the ages 0 to 4 in the United
States and almost 120,000 child care facilities Child Care Aware  (NACCRA, 2009).  http://www.naccrra.org/
 This child care

Facilities are regulated by the state government.   Therefore, the training requirements
Depend on the state in which the center resides.
There is no national regulating body that has the power to implement national requirements. However, the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
 http://www.naeyc.org/
provides a national accreditation program for child care centers. Their accreditation process sets a standard for all the programs in their accreditation system.  Several of the standards for accreditation require culturally, linguistically and ethnically diverse teaching materials and methods or Multicultural Education (NAEYC, 2008).

Toddlers Organize their Own Twilight

Toddlers Have their Own Innate Nature to Adapt to Sleep?

During this period of Toddler  the physical activity gradually recedes, also the physical and intellectual, is a gradual approach to the quiet privacy. It is advisable, at the same time to be favoring permanency for the child in the bedroom, reducing the intensity of environmental stimuli such as lights and noise. We must be preparing the entire atmosphere
Children regularly in their biological rhythms, specially toddlers have an innate disposition to organize their own twilight, accept all the rules on hours of sleep and sleep calm and confident. But there are others who just take advantage of the darkness to go to sleep
But others resist; this children could be have difficulties because food types have not help to get on asleep and also   the lights and the TV. By doing this, babies make endless trips in search of parents and another set of obstacles which deprive of sleep. Is never fall asleep at the time.

Within all this ritual of sleep, with favorite pillow, pieces of blanket, a diaper, a doll, stuffed animals all help children to sleep.
To those more anxious, they can take strong hand or hair, but without falling into the trap of having to accompany them until they fall asleep, because on one hand become "tyrants" with his parents, a situation that does not favor its development-and, secondly, it creates a very tense situation.

Causes and Factors Infants do not Sleep Well

I found in my experience  working as a nurse in area of  pediatrician also  for many years in Child Care Centers which  gave me the opportunity to communicate with close parents,  whom said have  a problem at bedtime of their infants  that do not sleep enough.

There are infants who fall asleep easily and others, however are particularly difficult to sleeping, with all attempts to achieve no success.
Is that there are not magic formulas and why parents should be patient and wait until this problem go away, but always offering their children the necessary tranquility so that they can fall asleep, little by little avoiding all kinds of disturbances.

Establish a bedtime ritual, which involves respecting meal times also bath is a great prediction to achieve the goal that the child settles go to sleep, but always keep in mind that the temperamental factor affects every individual. Some need more get time to sleep than others taking shortly simply.
Nighttime sleep is preceded by a period of about two hours, called the twilight of sleep, in other words, when the body prepares for sleep

Here is the question and answers can help you to handle these problems.

How many hours  sleep a child needs?

From one year of age, children sleep about 10 hours at night and two or three during the day, although this rule does not apply to everyone.

Is it common for a child to sleep through the night without interruptions?

It is learned gradually, although some children do others first and unaltered. There are some who wake up at midnight, but return to sleep.
What is happening when the child refuses to sleep alone?

You may have some fears (of darkness, separation from parents). Be sympathetic with them, but you have to go to sleep without help that child need go to sleep as schedule

What if instead of sleeping to play?

It does not take cases to their claims, not turn on the light in his room and, for any reason, get in the game that is cause for concern or distraction.

Do I need to sleep with a pacifier?

Up to two years, in most cases, the pacifier serves multiple functions, especially that of reassuring the child. At night, when he wakes up, helps you sleep, since the suction has a calming effect.

Why do some children move much during the night?

Sleep has several stages. Is intense from light to deep to REM where brain activity what dreams causes the child to behave as if he were awake, with sudden muscle movements, kicking, postural changes, etc.

What to do when a child wakes up frightened?

Many of the experiences that happen in the day, when awake, appear at night, you should go to her room in silence, in his arms to grab and find  what it is the uncomfortable that bother completely and provide the comfort that they need.

If you constantly uncovers, should sleep warm?

Parents fear that with so much movement of your child, you can uncover and cold. Before adjusting sheets or place several blankets, it is best to dress it up with these pajamas that include the whole body and feet, which is comfortable and not too hot to stop you sweating.lok a quality of type of fabric  as a cover or blanked

Are sedatives advisable for children with irregular sleep?

Never give sedatives, nor infusions or sweeteners. Only exceptionally the pediatrician may prescribe medication to help him sleep.

What is the best dinner to sleep better?

With a balanced diet and food needs covered there is a dinner better than another. It is advisable to avoid eating too light so as not to wake up hungry, nor those very abundant,
because they disturb sleep. There are also some sweeter foods that can cause thirst during the night.

What are the causes of poor sleep can make a child?

It may be that a child sleep well for months, but then start a period of instability and wake up with the same frequency as when he was a newborn. We must review your routine: changing dinner, bath, change of house or room. Situations can also influence nervous or family stress.

What to do when you want to sleep?

There are children that structure a habit of lying, orderly and systematic, as they assume this as normal. At first hard to establish, because the child wants to sleep at the time it deserves. This is fixed easily by setting a schedule and routine of lying.
The child when within 10 minutes of bedtime, to finish with games and activities and be prepared to lie down and sleep.
Turning off or lowering the volume on the TV and radio, with low lighting creates an atmosphere of night in the house.

If that indeed the child had no sleep, you must make him understand that it needs to rest and have to lie. At these times you can take advantage of reading, listening to music.
If the child has a hard time getting up in the morning and if during the day walking in a bad mood, you may be missing sleep. Put him to bed earlier or let a little nap.
Finally, remember that all children like to feel that their parents come to them before bedtime. Do not waste the opportunity to add a greeting of good nights in the routine of lying.

Life In Different Cultures

Infants and Toddlers Life in Different Cultures

In my opinion of all cultures of the countries of South America and North America the Infants and Toddlers are different.
Raising children to this stage in both areas of continent   has the importance of "Growth and Development of Child and Adolescent” which this population will be very determinant to have a healthy nations.

I want to talk over biological and physiological factors naturally without attribution to the exogenous social aspects such as economic and political influence are also involved to a healthy population that is due to three orders of reasons:

1) Reason it depends on the child's normal development

2) Reasons depending on their psychological health and biological living environment

3) Reasons that depend on the school and the learning conditions and pedagogy from the schools

But I would like to detail the differences in the upbringing of these children by their mothers, how they nurturing and the participation of family members; which it is a very important aspect of the human life, by referring to different aspects like the emotional, biological and nutrition care.

Statistically 95% Mothers in South America it is instinct maternal breastfeeding and add preventive education within the promotional programs to prevent disease "Mother Child" Which promotes the importance of nutrition for newborns and infants. Breastfeeding has many advantages as biological, immunological and psychological factors ensure to each baby, health for all life
These advantages for mother breastfeeding it’s strict and completely at least 6 months at any time that baby need.

Breastfeeding is normal and freely where mothers are at any place.
These 6 months. Continue to introducing homemade blended meals just any family meals under the monitoring nutrition program. But in some cases simultaneously breastfeeding until one year old of age, some are free to continuously to any kind of breastfeeding or infant formula until 18 months.
These infants and toddler spend in the cozy and warm environment of the home until the age of 4 years old under Control and Immunization Program of Growth and Development that are evaluated monthly by nurses at medical centers with give education for the mother to apply early stimulation in different cognitive and motor areas with household resources

In these periods of newborns, infants and toddlers family members are participating in baby care and they do not sending to "Child Care Centers” especially to newborns and infants.

The lives of newborns and infants are different here in North America than in South America 75% of  mothers did not chose breastfeeding. They already take most of decision to immediately be offered with the package  of plan artificial feeding or infant's formula and even before the birth.
Mother's lifestyle are very complicity that they can not keep the opportunity to have breastfeeding their babies.
The majority of mothers have government program where they taking child care centers or nursery. Usually in the  low income and middle income of mothers is locked in opportunity to give their babies and toddlers the natural breastfeeding and others take cares to them, for reasons of time track and distance from home to work that also takes them longer, so it is forced to use such Child Care and other services that are the reasons to be away from their babies and  raised    them out the home most the time. The other factor is that mothers have to support financially in the economic income to meet the needs.
Also family members are unable to help participating in their take care for the same reasons of work.
Well generally The majority of these babies are in disadvantage of breastfeeding as this separates of the valuable benefits of nutritional components of human milk in no way the infant formula is 100% equal to the breast milk also does not have immunologic substances, Which has human milk, The other disadvantage is that they Eliminate the emotional mother-infant bond and lowering the feelings.
About 45% of babies 0-6 months are registered in child care centers supported by government programs WIC.
This kind of live, where to lose Give the reasons, babies, toddlers and mothers are risking the family feeling and love that the baby should receive in their growth and development

Although all the different cultures and countries Promote family life, there are very distinctive differences in the way people behave in their families.

We need  to Support
But life in America for newborn and toddlers is different for the presence often creates barriers to breastfeeding and makes it hard for women to breastfeed. It is time for our society to get serious about giving families the support they need to be successful with breastfeeding. For this reason, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) would like to open up a national dialogue on how to make breastfeeding easier in this country.

Consumption of Soft Drinks

What Researchers Found About Soda and Juices?

Expert’s surveyed students, asked them how many sweetened soft drinks made by day, and then subjected them to a standard questionnaire used to assess mental health.
Young people reported no breakfast or lunch was located between the main consumers of industrial juices and soda, revealed the team led by Dr. Lars Lien of the University of Oslo.
"There was a strong association between the consumption of soft drinks and problems of mental health in the tenth grade boys", wrote the report published in American Journal of Public Health researchers.
Those young people not taking soft drinks were more prone to moderate consumers to have symptoms of mental health, said experts.
However, those who drank the most soft drinks - more than six week - had the highest records of these disadvantages in the diets of adolescents.
Many young people were consuming too much sugar drinks.
"A simple and effective to reduce the consumptionof soft drinks in this age group would remove soft drinks in schools and other public places where teens gather vending machines", concluded the authors of the report.
With this knowledge of the research study, we must take action against subtracting consumption diminution of sugars in foods and limiting the amount in the daily diet.

I support this research study. That I saw many hyperactive children exactly were the consuming these foods often and more quantity.
So under this knowledge we have to put actions to repair habits of improve our drinks specially children to prevent the Hyperactivity that probably with intake quality and natural foods and drinks more water juices with less sugar we can avoid Hyperactivity in children.

Food at Home and Pre-School

Food and Pre-School

Now is  talk about low nutrition at Pre-schools in areas of a poverty social level is very compressive as many factor of less vantages but, we have to know  if they also have the same foods in their home. The Pre-School of this social level, since the government bill nutritional program improve the food.

That  will be  better  If you can see some kind meals introduced with vegetables and fruits and some multi-cultural presentation dishes of  foods, The children they don't eat at all because they don’t have at home; they look as un-known and some  teachers ignore or didn’t encourage or motivate to try or to taste. So where to going this food without touched or taste? As you know, easily goes to the garbage.
Upon my observation through those years of my experience to working with children, parents and colleague; I can to determine here this matter; the real issue it is the big responsibility for parents specially mothers need education to learn and to take their responsibility very seriously to raise healthy children.

Children Nutrition

Pandemic of Obesity

After I was listening on TV S-SPAN panel with Agriculture and Nutrition Department of America about Pandemic of Obesity or Mal- Nutritional of the children.
THE World Health Organization declared obesity a global epidemic with
Major health implications.1 According to the 1999–2000 National Health and
Nutrition Examination Survey (www.cdc.gov/nchs/nhanes.htm), the prevalence
Of overweight or obesity in children and youth in the United States is over 45%,
A value that has tripled since the 1960s.The health implications of this epidemic
are profound. Insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obstructive
Sleep apnea, nonalcoholic steat o hepatitis, poor self-esteem, and a lower
Health-related quality of life is among the co morbidities seen more commonly in
Affected children and youth in their metabolism

My opinion, as I have many years to work very close with children from 6 months to 13 years old. In those years I worked in a different levels of social economic of Pre-Scholl private for 3 years where the family are with high income, other 2 years I worked with a middle class social or middle income and for 4 years worked in a poverty level.  My observation all those years an this places I found  the same nutritions problem.

Additives and Hyperactivity

Colour  Food  Additives   with  Hyperactivity
Child shows signs of hyperactivity or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), you should try to avoid giving your child the following artificial colours because this might help improve their behaviour.
  1. Sunset yellow
  2. Quinoline yellow
  3. Carmoisine
  4. Allura red
  5. Tartrazine
  6. Ponceau
These colours are used in a number of foods, including soft drinks, sweets, cakes and ice cream.
When colours are used in food, they must be declared in the list of ingredients as ‘colour’, plus either their name or E number.( E110), (E104),(E122), (E129), (E102)and  4R (E124) If any of six colours listed above are in food or drink, the food label must also have a specific warning saying that the colour ‘may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children’.
If you choose to avoid certain additives, you can do this by checking the label. If you buy any foods that are sold without packaging you will need to check with the person selling the product or with the manufacturer.
The Agency is encouraging manufacturers to work towards finding alternatives to these colours. Some manufacturers and retailers have already taken action to remove them.

Hyperactivity

High Comsumption of  Sugar With Hyperactivity

The years working in the area of the educational Pre-school I saw excessive consumption of sugar in the different foods such as juice of bottle, fruit desserts, cookies, Candies sweet biscuits and many early consuming gum which were part of this  come from their homes also offered in the school with frequently.
I found this search of the consumption of sugar and beverages that determine mental health problem especially in this stage of the children with hyperactivity.
Which, I support in that research of study.
High Consumption of Sugar with Mental Health problems By British Journal of Medicine
Study links
A group of teenagers from consumed sugar drinks recorded many mental problems including hyperactivity and anguish, reported Norwegian researchers.
A study of more than 5,000 young people from 15 to 16 years showed a clear and direct partnership between intake of soft drinks and hyperactivity, and a more complex link with other mental disorders and conduct.

Hyperactivity

What is Exactly Hyperactivity?

Hyperactivity is a general term used to describe behavioral difficulties affecting learning, memory, movement, language, emotional responses and sleep patterns. In the context of this advice, it is when a child is overactive, can not concentrate and acts on sudden wishes without thinking about alternatives. The Experts think it affects the figures are higher in the United States. and 2 to 5% of children in the UK

ADHD is more than just hyperactive behavior. It is linked to a specific pattern of behavior, including reduced attention span and difficulties concentrating such that they affect the child’s ability to learn and function at school and at home Children with ADHD often have learning difficulties and behavioral problems.

But It is important to remember that hyperactivity is also associated with many other factors in addition to additives. These include premature birth, genetics and upbringing of the woman.

But parents are quite simply not being given accurate information about psychiatric labels (mental disorders) or the drugs being prescribed to ‘treat’ their children. In the U.S.  alone, 10 million children are currently being prescribed psychiatric drugs—
